wingという英語に最初に出会ったのは昔々成田空港から旅立つときだったような気がします。「北ウィング」という表示がエキゾチックでした。
非日常的で近未来な雰囲気での出会いでした。
そして翼という意味だと知り納得しました。
鳥の翼、そして飛行機の翼、どちらもwingです。
ずいぶん経って、焼き鳥の手羽先もwingだと知ったときはちょっとショックでした。
考えてみれば当然なのに。

What’s in Season?
When I think of vegetables, I usually think of summer, but there are some that are in season now. If you think about “oden,” you can guess what one of the vegetables is: Japanese radish (“daikon”). People tell me that it tastes best at this time of year. Later in the season, the taste is not as sweet. Chrysanthemum greens (“shungiku”) are also in season. I don’t really like them, but I don’t dislike them, either. One of my favorite vegetables is lotus root (“renkon”). I like it because it can be crunchy or soft depending on how you cook it.
