pretend
pretendという動詞は「～のふりをする」と意味でしっかり覚えている人が多いと思います。
こんな風に使いますね。
She always pretends to be ill.（いつも病気のふりをする）
I pretended not to be at home.（居留守を使った）
先日こんな使い方を見ました。
…pretend to live on Mars
火星で生活する実験をするために何人かが長期間ドームのような施設に缶詰めになるという文脈でした。
火星に住むふりをするでも、真似をするでもなくて、火星に住む模擬実験をするということですね。
頭を柔らかく、視界を広げると、やさしい英語がもっともっと使えるかもしれませんね。

At the end of the regular MLB season, Ohtani Shohei had a pitching record of 9 wins and 2 loses. On top of that, he hit 46 home runs. He also liked to steal bases. In fact, he even stole home base against the Yankees in September! Is there anything he can’t do? I don’t know, but the season is now over, and it’s the time for awards. Three magazines have named Ohtani Player of the Year. His fellow players love him, too. He got the Players Choice Award for the MLB player of the year and the American League Outstanding Player of the Year. It’s not over. He still has a chance to win two more big awards in November. How many more awards will he get?
