Readers’ Corner: My First Halloween Party
People were wearing scary costumes in a restaurant. There was a vampire, a mummy, a witch, a skeleton and more. Jack-o’-lanterns were displayed here and there for the Halloween party held by an English school in my hometown. They had ‘apple bobbing’ in a large basin of water with apples floating in it. We tried to get an apple in our teeth without using our hands. Later, there was a costume contest. This was my first experience with fun Western culture. I was amazed and became a student of the school immediately. I have been to many Halloween parties since then, but that was the best.

初めての体験はなんでも忘れないものですが、英語イベントもそのひとつですね。私が帯広でJoyのAll English Dayに始めて行った時の印象を「熱く語っていた」と先生から教えられました。本人は忘れかけていましたが。
