The First Snowfall in Japan
Mt. Fuji is a beautiful mountain. It is not the highest mountain in the world, but it is the highest mountain in Japan. Last week, Mt. Fuji got its first snowfall of the season. I used to think that Mt. Fuji was the first place in Japan to get snow, but I found that Mt. Fuji has a competitor. Daisetsuzan Asahidake in Hokkaido often gets snow earlier than Mt. Fuji. It isn’t as high as Mt. Fuji, but it is farther north. Daisetsuzan Asahidake has gotten its first snowfall earlier than Mt. Fuji nine out of the last 12 years. What about this year? It was very close. The first snowfall came on October 4 at Daisetsuzan Asahidake and on October 5 at Mt. Fuji.
