The Oldest “Houses” in the World?
When you hear “Ukraine” these days, the first thing you probably think of is the war between Ukraine and Russia, but this area has been home to humans for a very long time. In 1966, scientists (archeologists) found some unique “houses” there. They weren’t really houses. They were like tents, but they were made of mammoth bones and probably covered with mammoth skins. They were big—they had a diameter of up to 10 meters. They must have been very difficult to make because mammoth bones are so heavy—one bone can weigh more than 100 kgs even when dry. Who built them? They were built by people who lived 14,000-25,000 years ago. At that time, there were still mammoths to hunt.
