Advice at a Going-away Party
We had a going-away party for another student at my tap dance studio. She is moving to the U.S. with her husband. Other students who have lived abroad gave her the following advice: 1) Don’t use the peace sign when you take pictures. It looks silly. 2) If you don’t understand something, don’t smile or laugh nervously. People will think that you are happy. Ask them to repeat what they said. 3) Don’t be shy, and don’t worry about what other people think. Tell them what you are thinking. 4) If people are bothering you, tell them to stop doing it or go away. 5) Be careful of your gestures. They don’t translate to other cultures. 6) Find a tap dance studio and make new friends.
