Readers’ Corner: The Sound of Coffee
Do you like coffee? If you do, do you like its smell, its taste, how it relaxes you, or do you like everything about coffee? There are a lot of coffee lovers in Japan and around the world, but many don’t know that some people listen to the sound of coffee for work. In Saitama, there is a sheltered workshop for visually impaired workers (workers who cannot see or can see only a little). They listen to sound of coffee beans in the roasting process and decide when the beans are done. Roasting beans requires fine-tuning of the temperature and length of time. Thanks to the expertise of these skillful listeners, their high quality beans sell well. Would you like to try some?
