Readers’ Corner: We Need to be Very Careful
I read this Monday’s Jaremaga, “Wild Animals Everywhere,” with interest. Brown bears live in Hokkaido where I live, but in recent years, they have appeared in the mountains near Sapporo and sometimes even in residential areas. They have attacked people. Nearby parks and mountain trails are closed now because many brown bear footprints have been found. Last month, they found a bear’s den, and two people who were investigating were attacked and injured by a bear. That was on a mountain that my husband and I often climb, but now it is closed to the public. Bears start becoming active in spring when they wake up from hibernation, so we need to be very careful now.
