Readers’ Corner: My Unusual Obon Holiday
For nearly 30 years, I traveled overseas every year during Obon to refresh myself. However, the coronavirus has prevented me from traveling even in Japan this year. Instead, I visited some villages in my prefecture that I had never been to. I watched several TV programs and read some articles about the war, and I was able to think more deeply about my own country. I had fun watching a meteor shower for the first time on August 12. Lastly, I decided to try writing a Jaremaga essay for the first time. This was an unusual but meaningful Obon holiday for me.
