Things Are Different in the U.S.
In Japan, elections are very short. Each political party chooses its own candidates (“kohosha”), and the candidates campaign for about 2 weeks. Then people vote in a general election. Things are different in the U.S. First, ordinary people choose a candidate for each political party in a primary. In New Hampshire, the primary was yesterday, and my sister and her husband went to the local elementary school to vote. They are Democrats, so they choose the candidates from the Democratic Party. If they were Republicans, they would choose candidates from the Republican Party. Now each party’s winner will run against each other for the general election on November 4.
