The Forest Man
A young man went to a sand island in the middle of one of India’s largest rivers, the Brahmaputra, after a flood. Jadav Payeng was shocked when he found many dead snakes there. They had died from the heat because there were no trees on the island. He decided to bring life back to the island, and he began by planting bamboo. He kept working alone and planted seeds and trees for 30 years. Thanks to his everyday efforts, the sand island became a forest. Now many endangered species like Bengal tigers and Indian rhinoceros live on the island, and about 100 elephants visit the island every year. This shows that one person can make a difference in the world!
