A Well-made, Hard-working Spacecraft
The Hayabusa2 spacecraft flew past the Earth this weekend, but it didn’t land. Instead, it dropped off a capsule with a sample inside. The spacecraft left the Earth six years ago to collect the first sample ever taken from below the surface of an asteroid. Scientists have collected the capsule from the Australian desert and hope that the sample will help them to better understand how the Earth was made. In the meantime, Hayabusa2’s long trip is not over. The spacecraft will travel for 11 more years to another asteroid. Now that is a well-made, hard-working spacecraft!
