Murder Hornets in the U.S.
Asian giant hornets (“osuzumebachi”) have been found in the western part of the U.S. They are also called “murder hornets.” “Murder” is another word for “kill,” and these hornets do kill people every year in Japan. They are much more dangerous to honey bees, however. They attack the honeybees in groups and kill thousands of them at a time. Japanese honeybees can fight back, but the European honeybees in the U.S. don’t know how to. Now U.S. farmers are worried that these giant hornets will kill all their honeybees.
