Looking for Treasure
It’s summer now, and people are starting to go to the beach. Most people go there to swim or sunbathe, but there are people who take a metal detector (“kinzoku tanchiki”). I’ve never seen anyone like that in Japan, but I have seen them in the U.S. Why do they have metal detectors? Because they are looking for treasure. Occasionally they find real treasure along the east coast of the U.S. where pirates used to hide. Most of the time, however, they find things that other people have lost: coins, rings, or earrings. In fact, that is usually what they are looking for.
