A New Champion
The Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament is over. No one knew who the winner would be until the last bout. Shodai and Tokushoryu only had one loss each until Saturday. Then they faced off and the winner was Tokushoryu. Yesterday Shodai wrestled first and won. In the last bout, Tokushoryu went up against Oseki Takakeisho and won. He became the new champion. He is the first wrestler at the bottom of “makuuchi” to win in 20 years and the first wrestler from Nara Prefecture to win a championship in 98 years. He isn’t young, but as he has a fighting spirit. As he says, “I’m still only 33 years old.”
