An Exciting End
The 15-day January Grand Sumo Tournament ended yesterday. Terunofuji, the only Yokozuna, began as the favorite, but by the middle of the tournament, Mitakeumi, a Sekiwake, was leading with a perfect record. By the 12th day, both wrestlers had 2 losses. So did Abi, a Number 6 Maegashira. Things were getting really exciting. Who was going to win? Terunofuji and Abi each lost one more bout, and on the last day, Terunofuji wrestled Mitakeumi. If Mitakeumi won this bout, he would win the tournament. If Terunofuji won, there would be a playoff. It took Mitakeumi less than 10 seconds to push Terunofuji out of the ring and take home the Emperor’s Cup.
