一瞬stolen（stealの過去形）と見間違って？？？となりましたが、ドイツのお菓子のことなのですね。ドイツ語でsは英語のsh音になるのでシュトーレンのような読み方だそう。

・この数年来人気になりました…現在完了というものがなぜ必要なのかわからない人もまだ多いかと思いますが、この文はその理解に最適の文ですね。
現在時制is popularでは違う、過去時制was popularも違う。数年かけて人気が高まって今がある…こういうことを表すには現在完了しかありません。
日本語にも昔は完了があったそうです。
・paradeは行進する（自動詞）もありますが、～を行進する、あるいは～を誇示して歩く、といった他動詞用法があります。itは巨大なstollenのことで、それを見せびらかして通りを歩くということのようです。

A New Christmas Tradition
Christmas is coming, and Japan seems to have a new Christmas tradition, stollen. When I came to Japan, no one had heard of this heavy cake-like bread, including me. In the last few years, it has become popular. You can find it in supermarkets everywhere. It is made with dried fruit, flour, spices, and a lot of butter, and it is covered with powdered sugar. Stollen originally comes from Dresden, Germany, and is eaten there during the Christmas season. If you go to Dresden in December, you can take part in a festival called Stollenfest. They bake a 3,000-4,000 kilogram stollen for the festival and parade it around the streets. Then they cut the stollen up and sell the pieces for charity.
