金曜日は読者の作品です。カタカナ語を見るたびにこれはLなのかRなのか、英語学習者の負担は重いですね。ロックバンドのレッド・ツェッペリンの綴り…私も気になったことはありますが調べるには至りませんでした。
★学びたい英語/まねたい英語（特にお手本と思うところ）
・（命名のわけ）を知った･･･learnは「習う」ばかりではないですね。
・鉛の風船が浮かぶわけはないので落ちる…失敗を表すたとえ。leadを発音通りLedともじったということのようですね。

Readers’ Corner: Not “Red” but “Led”
The other day, when I was reading an article in the weekly newspaper, I suddenly noticed the name of the rock group was not “Red Zeppelin” but “Led Zeppelin.” The article mentioned some of the songs of this famous English group. I’m not a big fan of theirs, but I knew their name in katakana. However, I had never paid attention to the English spelling. It is sometimes difficult for Japanese English learners to distinguish between “L” and “R”, isn’t it? It was a kind of aha moment. I learned how they got their name, too. A rock drummer said that the band would go down like a lead balloon (be unsuccessful), and so the band’s leader chose “Led Zeppelin.” Then, the day after I read the article, I saw an advertisement blimp (balloon) floating in the sky. What a coincidence!
