★今日のじゃれマガ 全文
Do Other Countries Have Golden Week?
Someone asked me if other countries celebrated Golden Week. The answer is no. Golden Week is made up of four very Japanese national holidays. Showa Day (April 29) began as a celebration of the Showa Emperor’s birthday. On Constitution Day (May 3) this year, I saw sound trucks with rising sun flags on one street. These people want to change Japan’s 1947 constitution. May 4 became a holiday in 1986 and is called Greenery Day. Finally, May 5 is Children’s Day. Japan is the only country with so many public holidays at the end of April and the beginning of May. How did you spend the holidays? I was a staff member at a big event at Fujimae Tidal Flat on Saturday, May 6. We were lucky with the weather and had a great time looking for crabs and other small creatures!
