A Better Idea
Salmon, mackerel (“saba”), and other popular fish are getting more expensive. According to one TV program, the prices have almost doubled. This is because a lot of seafood is imported from other countries. Japanese fishermen who catch these popular fish also catch fish that are difficult to sell. Most people don’t know these fish because they aren’t in supermarkets. They are too small, there aren’t many of the same kind, and they can be difficult to prepare. As a result, the fishermen often throw them back into the ocean. Recently, however, you can buy these fish directly from fishermen. They will send them to you along with instructions on how to cook and eat them. That’s a much better idea than throwing them back into the ocean.
