Why Station Names Change
Two years ago, Nagoya changed the name of one train station. It used to be called Nagoya Racetrack, but the racetrack moved to another place. They couldn’t keep the name if there was no racetrack. Then, at the beginning of this year, the city changed the names of several subway stations. One used to be called City Hall, but they changed it to Nagoya Castle. This makes it easier for tourists could find the castle. Two other stations had the word “Jingu” in them. If you live in Nagoya, you know that it means Atsuta Shrine. However, it wasn’t clear to people from other places, so they added Atsuta to the names.
