What’s the Best Temperature?
This has been the hottest year in Japanese history. In Gunma Prefecture, they have had 46 days where the temperature went up to 35 degrees or higher. That is a new record. On hot days, people need to use an air conditioner, but what is the best temperature? The Ministry of the Environment says that you should set the temperature at 28 degrees on your air conditioner. Other people say that you feel comfortable when the temperature is between 26 or 27 degrees. When I go into my university classroom, however, I often find the temperature set at 22 degrees. That’s too cold! Besides, it’s bad for the environment because 80% of Japan’s electricity comes from oil, coal, and natural gas.
