Going Back to the Past for New Ideas
Ships are very important in world trade. They carry about 90% of goods that are traded around the world. They carry everything: cars, electronics, food, and oil. Without ships, we would not be able to buy many things from other countries or sell things to other countries. Modern ships use oil to move from one place to another, but burning oil creates CO2, and CO2 is one reason for global warming. Now some ship builders are going back to the past for new ideas. Until about 150 years ago, ships had sails and were powered by wind. The new ships will have engines and sails. They won’t use so much oil, so they will make less CO2.
