・このplayは誰が誰と対戦するという他動詞ですからそのまま目的語に相手を取ります

A Great Sport to Watch
Badminton is a great sport to watch when it is played by the best players. The BWF (badminton) World Champions were held in Tokyo last week, and on Sunday, we got to see the gold medalist of the Tokyo Olympics, Chen Yufei, play last year’s gold medalist of the BWF World Championships, Yamaguchi Akane. Both players were fast on their feet and had great shots. At times, they just gave the shuttlecock a light tap. At other times, they smashed it into the other player’s court. In the end, Yamaguchi beat Chen and got her second BWF gold medal in a row. She hardly showed any emotion while playing, but she finally smiled when she lifted up her gold medal.
