Young Champions
Miura Kao won the gold medal in the Men’s Free Skate at the 2023 World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Calgary, Canada, over the weekend. His performance was full of difficult turns, and he skated with great energy. He is only 17 years old, but I’m sure we will see him in the next Winter Olympics. He was followed by 14-year-old Shimada Mao. Her parents named her after Asada Mao, and yesterday she did even better than her hero. She became the youngest Japanese woman to win the gold medal in the Women’s Free Skate. She is only 14, but she skated beautifully and kept a big smile on her face.
