・go ~ingは～しに行くという便利表現ですが、ここで注目はat a parkといっているところです。toでないですね。
・passは通り過ぎるということ。
・私が（双眼鏡で）何を見ていたのかと尋ねた･･･彼が声をかけた時より前のことを尋ねていることがハッキリします。
・pawpawをさっきも見た･･･これも今見ているのではなく過去に見たことを言っています。文法用語で大過去と呼ばれます。
・バナナとマンゴーの中間のようなもの･･･活用してみたい言い方ですね。

Pawpaw, a Delicious Wild Fruit
I went birdwatching at a park along a big river that flows through Richmond, Virginia. Many families were spending the sunny Sunday morning swimming and canoeing in the river. I passed a young couple with their two children. Because I was carrying my binoculars and camera, the father asked me what I had seen. I gave him a list of birds. Then his wife took a pawpaw out of her bag and gave it to me. I had seen the wild fruit on the path, but I didn’t know what it was. It looked like a green potato on the outside. I peeled it and ate it. It was soft and sweet inside, like a cross between a banana and a mango. Delicious!
