Land of Fire and Ice
Iceland is an island between the UK and Greenland. It gets its name from its climate. It is far north, so it is cold and icy in winter. At the same time, it is a land of fire. It is like Japan because it has a lot of volcanoes and hot springs. Now one of the volcanoes is erupting. It is sending red-hot lava and smoke into the air. There is a town a few kilometers from the volcano, but it isn’t in danger right now. The lava isn’t flowing towards the town. However, tourists will be disappointed because the Blue Lagoon, Iceland’s famous hot spring resort, has closed and will stay closed until the volcano stops being dangerous.
