Convenience Store Differences
In Japan, there are convenience stores everywhere in big cities. We have two within walking distance of our apartment in Nagoya. I haven’t seen as many convenience stores in Virginia, and most of them also have gas stations. All the 7-Elevens I have seen here sell gas, and the gas stations have small stores that sell drinks and snacks. When you go into a 7-Eleven in the US, it looks like the ones in Japan at first. There are lots of drinks and snacks. However, the hot food is different. There are no corn dogs (“American dog” in Japanese). Instead, there are hot dogs, hamburgers, and taquitos, a kind of tortilla tube filled with meat and cheese.
