Readers’ Corner: The Long Legs Charity Walk
The September 9 Readers’ Corner “Daddy-Long-Legs” reminded me of a time 20 years ago. There was a group of students who needed financial (money) support because of traffic accidents. They held a walking event called the Long Legs Charity Walk twice a year. The walk was around 10 km. Many walking courses were set up all over Japan. I was a member of a volunteer group, and we took part in these events several times. We walked and chatted while looking at the town and nature. At the checkpoints, the event staff talked to us about their group activities and about social issues. Now there are still many students who need financial support. I hope that many Daddy-Long-Legs will support them.
