Pumpkin Pie
This is the time of year when you can see pumpkins for sale along country roads and in supermarkets around the U.S. Almost every family goes out and buys a pumpkin at Halloween to make a jack-o-lantern. Of course, people also eat them. The most famous dish is probably pumpkin pie. It has a long history going back to the 1600s. Native Americans were eating pumpkin before Europeans came to America, and when the English came, they started to make pumpkin pie. The recipe hasn’t changed much since then. You make a pie crust, mix cooked pumpkin, eggs, milk, sugar, and spices like cinnamon, and bake it. Americans eat pumpkin pie in the autumn. It is a favorite dessert at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
