映画の都ハリウッドの名物看板が１００歳を迎えたそうです。最初の目的は映画用ではなかったとは驚きです。

・Hollywood signのことです/のことを言っています･･･こんな伝え方、おしゃれですね。
・Hall of fameというのは野球の殿堂やロックの殿堂などそれぞれの分野でありますが、Hollywood Walk of Fameもそのひとつですね。
・不動産広告のHollywoodの部分のみ生かし建て直したということですね。私たち日本人ならonlyをonly the Hollywood partとしたいところですが、英語ではonlyを動詞につけるほうが多いです。

Happy 100th Birthday!
One of the most famous signs in the world has just had its 100th birthday. I’m talking about the Hollywood sign. The sign is the symbol of Hollywood, the old movie capital of the U.S. Tourists come to Hollywood to take pictures of the sign and to see the handprints and footprints of famous actors in front of the Chinese Theater. They also look at the stars along the Walk of Fame celebrating famous people in the movies. The Hollywood sign wasn’t for the movie studios, however. It was built in 1923 by two men who wanted to sell land in the Hollywood hills. They made a big sign so that it could be seen from downtown L.A. It said “Hollywoodland,” the name for the housing area. When the sign got old, the city only rebuilt and repainted the “Hollywood” part.
