Readers’ Corner: Wild Hogs Can Swim!
I wonder how big the largest freshwater fish in Japan is. I have seen 40- to 50-cm carp in the river. It is scary to think of a 3- or 4-meter monster under the water. I don’t want to go near a river anymore! The other day, they showed an island of Onomichi City in Hiroshima on TV. They say the island is “occupied” by wild hogs (“inoshishi”). Wild hogs cause a lot of trouble such as breaking into houses and eating food or damaging crops. It seems they swam from the mainland! The island is 1 km away from Honshu, and there is video footage of wild hogs swimming. I was really surprised and realized how tough they were!
