A Beautiful Pattern
The grass is growing tall in front of the environmental center where I work. Have you walked in tall grass recently? There is a plant that grows at this time of year called beggarwood. It has special seeds that stick to your clothes. The grass around the environmental center is full of these plants. They are called “nusubitohagi” in Japanese. I was cutting the weeds in front of the center the other day, and when I looked down, my pants and my shoelaces were covered with the sticky seeds. They formed a beautiful light green pattern on my dark green pants.
