Readers’ Corner: I Was a Foreigner There
After the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were given new titles, the Prince and Princess of Wales. When I saw a news report about their visit to Wales on TV, it reminded me of my visit to Caernarfon Castle alone about ten years ago. After finishing two weeks of lessons at a language school, I headed to Wales by myself, first taking a train to the top of Snowdon Mountain and then taking a local bus to Caernarfon Castle. I was a foreigner there. The locals glanced at me because I was the only Asian on the bus. I guess they were speaking in Welsh because I couldn’t understand what they were saying. A lot of good memories came back to me, and I remember how excited I was climbing to the top of the castle.
