India Lands on the Moon
India landed a spacecraft on the moon last week. This makes India the fourth country to land safely on the moon after the Soviet Union (now Russia), the U.S., and China. Chandrayaan-3 made a soft landing near the moon’s south pole. This is the first time that a country has landed at the south pole. Why is this important? Because this area is very cold, and scientists know that there is ice there. If they can use the ice to make water and even air, it will make it easier for people to stay on the moon. Then they will be able to use the moon as a stopover when they go to another planet.
